Blog: Working from Home Tips from CompuCom Employees

Working from home full time can be a major adjustment. To help with your transition, here are some helpful tips from CompuCom employees who have been working remotely for years.

1) Place Indoor Plants Around Your Work Area

Surrounding yourself with indoor plants can have great and unexpected benefits! Plants may improve your mental outlook and reduce stress throughout the day, giving your immune system a natural boost. They can improve air quality and add humidity to your home, both positive factors for a better breathing environment. Studies have also shown that they can improve productivity and even your learning capabilities!

2) Set Boundaries and a Schedule

Working from home can make you feel tempted to try to do it all—be productive at work while also making sure the house is clean, the laundry is done, and dinner is prepped. Try to set regular hours for yourself and develop a routine. Make sure to create some boundaries around your schedule during the day if other family members are home, so you stay focused on work. Most importantly, stop work at the end of the day. A good cheat tip for keeping a routine schedule is to prep your crockpot before your morning of work begins, so dinner will be ready on time without interfering with your workday.

3) Find Inventive Ways to Keep Your Kids Occupied

Setting boundaries for family members while you work from home is a great idea—if those family members are old enough to respect those boundaries. Keeping your little ones entertained while you work from home can be a challenge. For young children, try rotating rooms during the day to avoid boredom and keep them entertained for longer. Below are some free services that you can take advantage of while your whole family is home with you.

5) Avoid Snacking While You Work

Working from home means you are just steps away from your kitchen pantry and all the snacks it has to offer. Snacking while you work can lead to larger portion sizes because you are distracted, leading to weight gain. Take the time to focus on your food, so it is more enjoyable, and you can recognize when you are full. Prepare healthy snacks ahead of time and plan them into your agenda. Dietitians suggest that you try to have a mix of protein, carbohydrates, and fat in each snack, such as an apple with peanut butter and a hard-boiled egg, or cucumber slices with hummus and a piece of cheese.
